Prints don't usually get damaged on the wall
They get damaged in the drawer: damp, pressure, contact with acidic board, and light. An archive box wards off all of these, so the work you are not showing yet can stay as close to its original state as possible.

Materials & construction
  • Hahnemühle archive and portfolio box — the mill has been making paper since 1584.
  • Made from acid-free board  — nothing acidic touches the print.
  • Board certified to DIN 6738, ISO 9706 and ISO 16245 (Type A) — lignin-free, no acid released, and it resists ageing: your work is safe inside it.
  • Lift-off lid with a thumb notch, so you can open it without levering at the edge.
  • Dove grey outside, natural white inside — a light interior, so you can see what is in the box.
  • Shallow profile — fits a plan chest or a shelf.

Putting it together
The box ships flat and unfolded, because a folded box crushed in transit is no use to anyone. Fold it when it arrives: a minute's work, no tools, and it only goes together one way.

Recommended for
Editioned works, signed prints, certificates, contact prints and old family photographs — the sheets you want to still be intact decades from now.

Good to know
  • Check the boards when they arrive, in front of the courier if you can. Damage to the board is permanent. Photograph it and contact us the same day.
  • The sizes are internal. An A4 box holds A4 paper with a little room to spare — that margin is deliberate, not an error.
  • A3+ and A2 boxes use thicker board than A4, so they resist stacking pressure better. If you are stacking, put the large boxes at the bottom.
  • Store boxes flat. Standing one on its edge puts the weight of everything inside onto one edge of the prints.
  • If you keep several prints in one box, interleave them with acid-free tissue. Keep loose sheets flat as well — a roll is a crease waiting to happen.
  • A box slows light and damp; it does not stop them. Keep it in a dry room, out of direct sun.
  • Not waterproof and not a flight case. To ship work, use a proper crate.
